FRANCES, or Something Similar, represents the culmination of a near-decade of exploration into the pliancy of the portrait image, through various collaged paper interventions on a series of polyptychs shot between 2012 and 2018. The work is both a compression of time as well as an overview of Anthony's broader practice, taking in forms and strategies employed throughout the course of his career. “Frances” as a series is my favourite—and, I think, the most mature—work I’ve done, in both the more expressionistic interventions as well as in the way it engages with manifold forms that have followed me through the entirety of my practice.
