PHOTOLIBRA by María Kontreras
A6, 32 pages, Colour printing, Hand sewn, Softcover, 2024
In 2023, I documented flowers and my body next to them, hoping to create something with that material. Almost a year later, this project was born. The instantaneous portrait of the flowers at the moment they were delivered was necessary due to the uncertainty of not knowing how much longer they would exist in that state. The flowers were a birthday present. The self-portrait of my body with them, to immortalise that moment and record it in my digital world. The documentation is important as a token of gratitude for this gift and for the person who gave it. The flowers were just flowers, but now they have become this. Prolonging the life of that bouquet and transforming it into an artistic and sentimental exploration. The photographic documentation done digitally leads to the study of shapes, spaces and colours interpreted by me with the help of artificial intelligence tools. The images have been transformed into flat, linear, abstract and three-dimensional forms. The use of artificial intelligence to modify the portrayed body and face creates multiple avatars, making me question whether I really want to be real or would prefer to digitise myself completely.
