“It seemed that instead of growing outwards as he so feared, the circles had grown within him, eventually killing him in May of that year.”
The shape of a circle denotes a totality and an absence. Like a magic trick, with the addition of one letter, nothing becomes something, a hole becomes a whole.
(W)HOLE, Book One is a collection of short fictions by Sam Watkins and Pete Phipps. The circles in this collection are littered across history, from the plans of French neo-classical architecture to a goon hovel in an enchanted forest. Beginning with a voyeuristic telescope maker, the stories descend into an unravelling of experimental prose, shrieking with over stimulation as well as approaching silence.
