TRADITION AND SABOTAGE by Patrick Benson

A5, 48 pages, Full colour printed, Perfect bound, Softcover, 2021

Fashion and poetry meet in an odd place. Perhaps traditionally not crossing paths much, they share sentiment as descriptors of artistic elevations from the everyday (fashion from clothing, and poetry from words). In his first collection, young poet Patrick Benson explores this relationship by responding to the 35 womenswear shows Lee Alexander McQueen made whilst working at his namesake house. The book also contains 5 drawings based on McQueen's life and work by Serafina Lee. 10 years on from his death, his shows remain as inventive and as new as they ever were, and his artistry remains unmatched, both in terms of quality and individuality. If you are looking for a way to get into his work, or are familiar and want to hear someone else's take: look no further.
