THE HEART'S CONSTANT by Ian Macartney

135 x 210mm, 32 pages, Colour printing, Saddle stitched, Risograph printed softcover, Hand numbered edition of 50, 2026

A spiritual sequel to the poetry pamphlet 'Shale Bings', composed of two twinned sequences: 'systole' and 'diastole'. The former details love and heartbreak at the end of the world (Aberdeen) during what felt like the persistent froth of the world's end (the late 2010s), while 'diastole' expands this emotional scope to reflect on the ocean, and how it interacts with human endeavour – poems which sit like flotsam over the page, driftwood-ing stanzas churned by a pantheistic energy. If you want, think of this quote from Jeffery Jerome-Cohen while reading the poems: "most Anthropocene narratives embrace linearity […] yet their currents swirl with affective detritus, recondite matter, queer fragments, anomalous proximities."
