THAT'S ALSO PRACTISE by Mordwaffe
Tape cassette (C-22), card stock cover with insert, 2022
Mordwaffe were a Glasgow based band consisting of Jess, Matt & Ruari from Vital Idles, MFR (bass!) and David "Nein" Rodere who writes
"In 2015 we started via improvising and swapping instruments and by 2016 had locked into our roles and a sort of neverending two-chord stumble. I wanted it to sound like we were trying to sound like Garbage and the Flowers trying to sound like VU, but listening now I can also hear traces of the first Modern Lovers lp, Pin Group, Silver Jews ca. Arizona Record and The Go-Betweens, whose "Liberty Belle..." I was rinsing at the time. Mind you the #dreambig aspects of all this namedropping!
We did a sort of album, ("Scraps of Metal", 2016) but I always preferred the sound of the phone-recordings we did at practise. We made a tape of some early ones ("That's Practise") and this is the follow up (hence "that's ALSO practise"), which is another Garbage and the Flowers reference I guess...stoned rehearsal - that's also practise?!? 2017 saw the end of Mordwaffe for this reason or the other. But ya, we had some wonderful trips in that stinking Shawlands garage & happy to share some of them."
