New Growth, Blue Growth is a protest zine that discusses the current climate situation in relation to sea life and all creatures that inhabit the ocean. One of the main concerns is the presence of microplastics in the water as well as changing chemical compositions which directly impacts organisms. This zine presents the current research surrounding this topic alongside mono and lino printed drawings plus collaged elements which showcase the diverse life that lives in our seas - the life that may disappear if we do not take action. Blue growth is an essential carbon offsetting method whereby seaweed is grown and farmed to capture carbon for a better balance between humans and nature. “Seaweed offsetting is not the sole solution to climate change, but it provides an invaluable new tool for a more sustainable future” (Froehlich et al., 2019). We can change the tide.
