HELD BY THE PATH by Eloise Hodgkinson

A5, 288 pages, Black & white printing, Perfect bound, Softcover, 2025

‘Held by the Path’ explores how we interact with, resonate with and create memories associated with walking, experience and archiving landscapes. This project was rooted in a site-specific study of Ardgartan Forest in Argyll Forest Park and resulted in a comprehensive publication that detailed my entire experience of the environment. Each time I visited the site I walked the paths, forests and beaches, creating and observing as I went along. Slowly an extensive body of work that spanned multiple mediums built up, supplemented by exploration of historical records and maps that contextualised the location. I mapped my journeys to and from, sketched and photographed the environment, used field research books to create small-scale bio-inventories of species I observed, created writings and produced inspired works back in the studio that involved stitching and knitting alongside various printing methods. This book aims to demonstrate my passion of walking and creating in nature, aiming to capture this feeling to share with others.
