CRYSTALLINE CHRYSALIS CRISIS by Fritz Welch
A1 poster folded down to A4, double sided, full colour printing on front, black and white on back, 2018
Doubling as exhibition display come poster and writing publication ‘CRYSTALLINE CHRYSALIS CRISIS’ in this form contains a collection of texts by Fritz Welch.
‘Artist and musician Fritz Welch presents CRYSTALLINE CHRYSALIS CRISIS in Summerhall’s Machine Shop – a bunker-like area in the former veterinary school, housing its defunct metal-lathe, responding to the space’s architectural and interior features. Utilising the privately-owned art centre’s inherited and personal furniture in-conjunction with sculptural installation, which includes wall drawings, videos and sound works, Welch will attempt to make the metal-lathe disappear under a greenish haze of scepticism.
CRYSTALLINE CHRYSALIS CRISIS is a redux of Welch and producer Holly Knox Yeoman’s previous work together – CRACK SQUAD OF SITU (University of Glasgow – History of Art Department, Aug 2017). Their situs, combine installation and one-off performances, influenced and in retaliation to the restriction and policing of thoughts, feelings and space. CRYSTALLINE CHRYSALIS CRISIS looks to the inbuilt programming of ideological and organic revival and its dichotomous characteristics – brutally nostalgic to the point of urging destruction or transformative to the point of instilling release.’
