AN ABSENCE OF NORMAL by Harry Hall
210 x 210mm, 50 pages, Black & white printing, Perfect bound, Softcover, Ed. of 200, 2022
The book ‘An Absence of Normal’ investigates of a city during lockdown. For a short period of time all of our great cities were no longer engines of human endeavour, rather, they became empty immersive sculptures depicting another era.
Lockdown in various forms lasted only about 18 months - a blink in history. This work is a ‘bookmark’ to remind us of that extraordinary interruption to normality.
Although it was photographed in Newcastle it is the story of all cities. The pages are paired -they either form a metaphoric relationship or a visual correlation. The monochrome images are accompanied by an essay running through the book.
