180° by Anders Granberg
A5 (landscape), 54 pages, Colour printing, Perfect bound, Hardcover, Hand numbered edition of 40, 2020
This book contains 46 images from some of the most famous landmark sites in the world, with the camera turned 180°.
Based on extensive online research, I identified the location from which an overwhelming majority of photographs of a specific landmark are taken. Using Google Street View, I then positioned myself at this spot, turned the view 180°, and captured an image/screenshot.
The work consists of 46 images from some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, with the camera direction rotated 180°. The images are compiled into a book produced in an edition of 40 copies. Each book is numbered and signed. The images are also available as archival-quality prints in the format 70 × 50 cm.
Examples of depicted landmarks include Alcatraz in the United States, the Acropolis in Greece, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Stonehenge in England, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
The work explores perspective, established visual conventions, and the act of looking beyond the obvious.
