Publication made on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Bettina: Finite Structures’ at Cento, part of Glasgow International 2026. The booklet features an essay by Dr Esther Draycott that situates Bettina’s work in the era of its production and documents key artworks and ephemera from the artist’s archive. Born in Brooklyn, Bettina was a conceptual artist who, after working as a designer and travelling between Europe and the United States during the 1950s and 1960s, lived and worked in New York’s Chelsea Hotel from 1972 until her death. Over several decades, she maintained a prolific practice that rejected the singular art object, developing a rich body of work encompassing photography, xerography, word art, film, computer-assisted animation, textiles, painting and sculpture.
