The Death of a City is an illustrated, 24-page zine of smaller moments within the Warsaw uprising of 1944. Texts featured in the book are accounts and statements from the time taken directly from volumes one, two and three of Ludność Cywilna w Powstaniu Warszawskim - as well as the experience and likeness of Alina Balinska. Illustrations are referenced from photographs in the Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego archive. The uprising has permanently altered Poland, its capital buildings no older than 80 years due to the destruction wrought upon it. Consequently, it is one of the many tragedies that have affected the people of Poland - they are proud of their heritage, that they are still Poles after repeated suffering and suppression. This zine makes space to remember these civilians, families, and loved ones through craft and care. I hope it can be a compassionate introduction to the uprising for Western readers.
