L'ABSENCE by Dominique Rivard, published by Brise-glace L'absence examines Rivard's performative wanderings on the North Shore of Quebec (CA). In the repetition of the passing and fleeing seasons, the absence becomes both a spatial and social referent. In the French beginning poem, Rivard reveals in the absence her capacity to embody a place in order to invent herself unlimited, since always elsewhere. The photographic series recounts her journey into the cold season, where the absence becomes a location for the artist: the absence, a realm that, invisible, defines itself in perpetuity. Comparable to a logbook, the photographies explore the specificities of the idea of a place and the act of telling oneself.
