ARCTIC SWELL by Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte
A5, 44 pages, Risograph printing, Saddle stitched, Softcover, Ed. of 150, 2022
Arctic Swell considers timescales of climate heating in relation to that of human gestation. This limited edition riso printed artist book features photographic, microscopic and photogrammetric collage images and texts by the artist. Weaving comets, leonids, glacial lakes and cuckoos with microscopic imagery of Arctic lichen, digital Arctic forests, (healing from) postnatal depression and infant/mother symbiosis, this collection was originally written as scripts and overhead texts for the moving image work of the same name. Having grown to exist on paper, it is best read out loud in a cold soft voice. Arctic Swell waspublished to coincide with the exhibition Arctic Swell at Northern Photographic Centre, Oulu, Finland in 2022 as part of Street Level Photowork's On the Edge residency programme. With additional writing by Rosie Roberts.
