RIVER BODIES by Enxhi Mandija
A5, 36 pages, Black & white printing, Saddle stitched, Risograph softcover, 2024
A body of clay, malleable, watery, transformative and transforming. The relationships the body weaves – the strong nets of friendship, the first tendrils of love – are melting clay figures, at once delicate, about to return to water and sand, and, once fired, resistant. The images that gather around the body – strands of kelp; a coastline – are an echo and a prolongation of its discomfort, its yearning, its contentment. The poetry in River Bodies is a reflection on communication and connection, gathering the moments when meaning comes into shape, briefly, on the verge of shimmering away. River Bodies is printed in an edition of 100, with original drawings by the writer. Printed at Sunday's Print Service, Glasgow, and realised as part of Rosie's Disobedient Press' Emerging Artist Writers Programme.
