It’s about memory and desire. Not just the city in which I am but the cities in which I have been, in which I will be, and the cities of which I dream. Several cities, real, remembered, and imagined in each photograph mark the boundary of an experience of strandedness between places and times. A sense of strandedness inbetween is also performed through the juxtaposition of photographs and diary pages. Inclusion of the latter not only helps me to make sense of what I am doing with a series of photographs but also opens a space for reflection in the interval between photographing and writing a diary. The Other City is an ongoing series shot in several cities based on the idea I have followed through several suites of photographs of all the cities represented merging and dissolving into each other through the photographer’s memories and dreams to become The City.
