ISOLA (2020) by John Perivolaris
150 x 210mm, 20 pages, Black & white printing, Saddle stitched, Softcover, 2020
This suite of images was made in the immediate vicinity of my home on the island of Arran, off the West Coast of Scotland. Taking the form of a poetic diary, it combines images and text and uses my surroundings to reflect on the experience of enforced isolation as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. My normal practice involves the combination of images and texts to create physical works, such as zines and self-published photo books based on dialogue with others. Recent circumstances have lead me to create a work based on an internal dialogue with myself in relation to my immediate surroundings. In this series the island is a metaphor for an existential state of solitude.
