CZERNY’S SYMPOSIUM #001: KODOKU by Junpei Satyapan (Ed.)
141 x 217mm, 208 pages, Colour printing, Perfect bound, Softcover, Comes in card sleeve, Hand numbered edition of 100, 2025
The publication, alongside the inserts included in the book, centers around the Japanese word “孤独” (kodoku), which translates to "isolation" or "loneliness." The issue explores how people find resilience through solitude and the quiet strength that comes from sticking with one’s decisions, through their respective crafts. I invited fellow photographers, creative directors, models, and academics to respond to this theme—and the results are raw, reflective, and provide an intimate insight into their creative processes.
The publication features interviews with Lola Dement Myers (creative director of Lucky Jewel) and Nayawashi (Seoul-based model and artist); illustrations by Daylen Seu (whose work has been featured by songwriters CFCF and Silica Gel); essays by Wei Hong (professor at the University of Washington, Seattle); a photography series by Ethan Ming (LA-based photographer with work for Reese Cooper and Mad Happy); and writings by Dakota Butler (creative director and featured model for Ann Demeulemeester). Models include Eri Nguyen, Ashley Wang, and Nancy Liang Han, who have appeared in fashion campaigns for Peter Do and Yohji Yamamoto.
