Käthe Kollwitz’s many iterations of the image ‘Mary and Elizabeth’ are dear to Katarina, for the way they show the potential of rehearsal and the re-activation of shared gestures, particularly across generations of feminist and anti-fascist activism. Katarina’s video work ‘Not A Pillar Not A Pile (Dance for Dore Hoyer)’ is based on the incomplete and porous archival material of a choreographic work by Dore Hoyer, itself based on the works of Kollwitz, including ‘Mary and Elizabeth’.
