LAND OF ICE AND WIND by Helen Balfour
144 x 202mm, 24 pages, Risograph & colour printing, Saddle stitched, Softcover, 2025
Grytviken, once a whaling station that employed many Shetlanders, is a place steeped in history and isolation. Though the whaling days ended in 1966, Helen found herself deeply connected to the landscape, the wildlife, and the legacy of the place during her six-month stay working at the South Georgia Museum.
Land of Ice, and Wind explores this connection between South Georgia and Shetland, capturing Helen’s experience of this otherworldly environment before her return there for the next season.
