THE INTRIGUE OF THE FLEA by Isobel Neviazsky
21 x 24cm, 52 pages, Black & white printed, Perfect bound, Softcover, 2019
This book serves as a catalogue of my exhibition The Intrigue Of The Flea at Basic Mountain. It is important for me to create this catalogue which collects the artworks from the show, as I treat the exhibition space in the same way as I treat a drawing: it is a work itself. This composition of works is never to be repeated, so I wish to document it here.
Seeing an image in reproduction is a different experience to seeing a work in person, however I don’t think it is necessarily lesser. The majority of my experience with art and my education is through reproduction. I am not aiming to reproduce the exhibition as it was, but with this catalogue I aim to reproduce the artworks in a way sympathetic to the medium of a book, rather than the space of a room. I have put the same care into the layout as I did with the exhibition.
My practice revolves around the idea of making my art accessible to others and I find publications a great opportunity to share my work with others in a way that is affordable.
