NOTES ON WATER AND BLOOD by Ryan Schulte
168 x 210mm, 20 pages, Black & white printing, Saddle stitched, Softcover, Ed. of 75, 2021
"Bruce Springsteen, whose fan base includes a lot of cops, wrote a protest song called “41 Shots (American Skin)” about the murder of Amadou Diallo in 1999. When he and the E. Street Band played it at Madison Square Garden, white people literally turned their backs to the stage. From a queer antiracist lens, Schulte uses “41 Shots” to talk about his upbringing in the white suburbs of Southeastern Nassau County, NY and the uses of protest art."
