Broken Chords is a series of works on perforated steel plates that examine the metal grinder as a drawing tool. In a subtractive method of mark making, forms emerge by the cutting, effacing and arranging of the iron oxide (mill scale) on the plates; within this erasure, the abrasive sonic presence of the grinding disc to the metal is also explored, through which the sounds were recorded and later used as templates for various sound compositions.
