HOLD THAT LINE! CLASS STRUGGLE IN THE WATERFRONT WORKER by Jessalyn Aaland

135 x 205mm, 48 pages, Risograph printing, Saddle stitched, Softcover, 2024

A collection of illustrations from the 1930s San Francisco newspaper by and for longshore workers, The Waterfront Worker. Published during the era of the infamous 1934 West Coast Waterfront Strike, these drawings are often humorous, sometimes bizarre, and always deliver a biting critique of capitalism and the bosses who inflict suffering on everyday workers. Recurring characters include prolific representations of everyone’s favorite labor icon, the rat, alongside greedy shipowners complete with top hats, Lilliputian bosses trampled by burly giants, and classic baddies: cops.
