Vocable is many things both in its meanings and etymologies and in its manifestation here as a body. Vocable is its own vocable: The designation its voice lives inside. It is a process of intimate reading, sensory correspondence and continuous dreaming. In her work Florence enters into the poetics of the writers she is speaking with. She manifests their speech, and within it begins a rearticulation, a vernacular redistribution which is as akin to dance as it is to music. There is a steady and exact tenderness in this work. Vocable is literally a designation, one that opens into a giant garden paracosm. Within this designation its “items of vocabulary” are tested and realigned. A phonology that stretches beyond speech into breath, movement, image and the motions of the body inside its world.
