FANTASY SENTENCES by Maisie Wills and Samuel Rafanell-Williams
A5, 28 pages, Colour printed, Saddle stitched, Softcover, 2022
'Fantasy Sentences' is a collaborative writing project between Maisie Wills and Samuel Rafanell-Williams. It is based on Walter Benjamin's radio game of the same name by which he would give listeners a list of several seemingly unrelated words before asking them to create short compositions using those words with the aim of encouraging a playful approach to writing. Maisie and Samuel began this project to get each other writing again, bypassing the high degree of self-criticism they both experience when sitting down to write. In this zine they hope to inspire readers to do the same. It was completed when both writers had covid and thus had to post each other the words. After this period they came together and collaboratively put the respective compositions together. The compositions, ranging from single sentences to developed short stories, are presented creatively through the medium of collage to emphasise the playful aspect of the writing.
