TWO FRICTIONS by Josh Dodds and Abby Sunde

A5, 36 pages, full colour printing, perfect bound, softcover in yellow or red, 2023

Two Frictions is a collaborative essay presented by Josh Dodds and Abby Sunde at the Irish Museum of Modern Art's 2021 Summer School. Reflecting on the role of mapping in contemporary art, the book gives a brief survey of performative approaches to the map that touch on ecology, play and the body and offers an alternative kind of mapping in its drawings, symbols and markings that illustrate the different forms the map might begin to take. Omnidirectional and flitting, Two Frictions asks how we can create common threads through culture that extend beyond the geographic and how we can make a map that respects change, liveness, memory, and re-enactment.
