VYPRAMIEŃVANNIE/RADIOACTIVITY by Hanna Paniutsich
130 x 170mm, 64 pages, Risograph printing, Coil bound, Softcover, 2024
The discovery of radiation helped to unlock the deep time of present and future, connecting us to the unknown - how long will it take for radioactive pollution to decay? Mixing research and personal stories, Vypramieńvannie/Radioactivity examines the emotional, physical and ecological infrastructures growing out of the Alienation Zone around Charnobyl. The Alienation Zone is an exclusion zone - a special territory from which certain bodies become ejected or displaced. This view into the Zone helps show an advanced laboratory of the consequences and long term legacies of irradiated waste colonialism. It aims to uncover the entanglements of nuclear technology. The publication traces the history of radioactivity and radiation, from Borjom mineral water to radioactive fungi inside the Charnobyl reactor; from nuclear proliferation to the chemical contamination that spreads around the globe and beyond, possibly to the cosmos.
