FOSSIL by Benjamin Dittrich
104 pages, 23,4x31cm,“Klischee” print cover, 100 black linocuts inside
One of our favorite Leipzig artists Benjamin Dittrich sent us some of these massive linocut collections published by the ever-fancy Lubok Verlag. And linocuts it is, throughout, real life linocuts in the nicest black you’ll see printed anywhere for a long while. Benjamin works with found imagery from (natural) science books, re-appropriates and re-arranges fragments into strange collages of figurative, abstract and symbolic shapes. Some of them end up as drawings and some more as multi-layered lino-prints, and by multi I mean MULTI! For this book he collected a share of his plates and printed them monochromatic, and the result is a strangely compelling collection of shapes and cryptic information to go back and forth and back again. A product of a talented printmaker and a lovely, tactile, item. Highly recommended.
