LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS by Elena Zaccagnini

2 x A3 posters, full colour printed, folded to A5, 2018

“Long Term Relationships is a curatorial project developed in collaboration with Madrid-based artist Mar Cubero that delves into the relationships between artists and curators, aiming to understand artistic scenes as support structures. Long Term Relationships was born from the idea of sharing an artistic context, which is understood here, not as the one created through institutional legitimation, but one that we produce just by being together sharing a space ― a room, a city. On the belief that we shape and inhabit artistic scenes through encounter, we build a space for shared experience, for being and making together, which is defined by contingency and instability, but also for care, affection and shared desires. After six months working together within the distance between Glasgow and Madrid, Long Term Relationships spent time in residency in Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Scottish Sculpture Workshop and Many Studios in Glasgow, taking the shape of a reading group, a publication and a table while the project was being affected by other voices and ideas in each of the spaces.  As part of the project, Mar and Elena invited other voices to gather in the spaces they have occupied over the summer months. These encounters were thought of as spaces in which they invited attendees to share and accumulate materials with them, while engaging in a conversation on art scenes as support structures, accomplices, long term relationships and friendship as ‘an essentially political relationship of allegiance and responsibility’ [Céline Condorelli].”
