Is it because we haven’t had anything comparable in very recent times? Sometimes it feels like we are living in a time when it’s all about the same, everything has been referenced so much that it has all become dust and the peace sign has about as much meaning as the swastica. I’m not saying this in a negative way, i think it’s kind of exciting. For me these works create that feeling, they reference several times and things but still completely fresh. The book is a collection of drawings showing various constructions of landscape, that includes gardens and parks, as well as virtual landscapes seen in computer games and 3D simulations. The drawings are a record of a variety of representations of nature. They are what we consider we can use nature for, in our urban and suburban environments, or what we imagine we can use nature for in a digitally generated landscape. The drawings present the blurring bounderies between the natural and the artificial and the virtual and the real, not through confrontation but through a neutral position that allows a questioning of these enigmatic transitions."

Anna Gille is one of our 2017's From The Author exhibitors.

Published by

A5, 32 pages, Black & white digitally printed, Saddle stitch, Card cover, 2017

"The ink drawings reproduced in this book are studies of Bonnington hydro electric power station and were created on site between August 2016 and May 2017 - focusing on details of the stations equipment, fixtures and architecture."

Published by

A5, 12 pages, full colour digital printing throughout, saddle stitched, 2018

008 in the series, Mick Peter and the imprint The Endless Catalogue continue on the documentation journey. She was an actress and cartoonist known for her reckless comedic drawing style. As one of only a handful of women cartoonists in a male publishing environment, her work was habitually disguised, emasculated, overwritten and stolen. After her death, her male collaborators took the opportunity to erase her from history. They almost succeeded. In 2017, Simon Grennan identified Duval’s work in The Story of a Honeymoon for the first time. The drawings replicate a performance work Rose made in 2013 titled “Soragim,” where they built and occupied the in-between space of a freestanding window and its bars. Rose then wove white yarn between the bars until disappearing into a field of white. Likewise, the drawings progress from 1 to 30 as a line of thread weaves through ornamental window bars, eventually creating a wall of woven line across the page. Rose reimagines the windowsill as a performative site—almost as an actor on the stage. This “queer” space is a meditation on time and place, knowing and unknowing, a safe space of both comfort and discomfort.

Adam Liam Rose (b. 1990 | he/they) is an interdisciplinary artist working across sculpture, drawing, video and installation. Born in Jerusalem and raised mostly in the United States, his works investigate the aesthetic systems of power embedded within architecture. Rose draws inspiration from political realities in Israel / Palestine and the United States, often looking to structures of separation and control whose intentions either manifest outright, or slither beneath the surface. His works navigate ideas around artifact, “history,” and collective memory, uncovering how these distinct categories coalesce into feelings of place or “placeness.” Utilizing and subverting utilitarian materials including paper, textiles, and plywood, he creates a space for dialogue between the permanent and the ephemeral, the physical body, and the history embedded in objects.

He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY

Published by

A5, 40 pages, black and white printing, saddle stitched, 2021

A CATHARTIC TURN OF EVENTS is a zine directly influenced by my personal experience with depression - specifically the liminality of the healing process. It focuses on the paralysing feeling of being stuck in a constant state of transition, and aims to replicate the disorienting disposition that comes as a result of it. This zine is an effort to become more open with my mental health than I ever have been before. It’s a window into my mind when fighting depression - a self-inflicted sense of clarity I have always needed. It equips a level of vulnerability that is brand new to me, which is both terrifying and exciting. The zine is 44 pages long and contains a collection of experimental photography, paintings, ink print and writing. It is available to purchase now. …You don’t have to buy it, though. This project means a lot to me, and I want it to be available to everyone, regardless of a price. If you are interested, I will send you a free abridged digital version.
