Laura Pugno’s research focuses on the landscape not only as a natural element or a fixed frame of reality, but as a kind of social construction, an ideological and cultural superstructure. The book presents a series of selected iconographic works of the last five years, which are part of the new series of artworks made in Sardinia and dedicated to the Supramonte inland and some critical essays written by Lorenzo Giusti, Cecilia Canziani and Gian Antonio Gilli."

Published by

15 x 21 cm, 256 pages, Perfect Bound, Black & white / purple offset printed, Softcover, Ed. of 2000, 2013

"In recent years Koki Tanaka has employed a variety of methods to produce works on the relationality that arises between human beings. But all is not well on this paradise island...The arrogance of the poses and expressions on the faces mask an unease that the tide is already on the turn, that having reached this place of perfection and bliss, disintegration and decay is but a breath away, that the words they whisper to us in Latin have little currency or meaning for the viewer, that all that glitters is, indeed, not gold. The work explores the idea that we live in an increasingly superficial world, of 'spin' and media onslaught, the need for meaning and substance in our everyday lives increasingly competing with the meaningless follies of fashion and the cult of celebrity, created by the corporate machine and peddled by the media. And, with an ongoing interest in the presentation of art and the politics, mechanisms and myths surrounding the 'cult' of art and its production, we can surmise that Beagles and Ramsay's creation of this folly, this mirage of a 'place within a place', questions the purpose, validity and importance of art and the role of artists themselves.

Published by

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/5338/0582/products/01_D_5cfacb34-d6e3-4102-8fee-c362d53ab53b.jpg?v=1634664695
beagles-and-ramsay-new-heads-by-beagles-and-ramsay
BEAGLES AND RAMSAY (NEW HEADS) by Beagles and Ramsay

A4, 70 pages, full colour printing, perfect bound, 2019

Ongoing documentation of works from Beagles and Ramsay. The Ganek Gallery is a book devoted to reconstructing one of his most important artistic projects. This legendary gallery was situated on a mountain peak, highly regarded by climbers, in the High Tatras range. Although no works were ever actually displayed there, its aim was to communicate thoughts and ideas which would not have found their place in art otherwise. The project evolved through many years of persevering work, with the community of its adherents meeting in private apartments in Bratislava. This book about the Ganek Gallery emerged from the dialogue with participants, as a supplementary catalogue of Koller's fictive institution. It brings together photographs, magazine cut-outs, collages, drawings and text records from many private and public sources. The print media and the culture of high mountain tourism in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and '80s are explored in all their complexity.
